My Family on Welfare
“My Family was on welfare during my school years.”
Shinee group member Jonghyun disclosed an untold story about his school years.
On October 25th’s broadcast of mbc fm4u’s blue night radio DJ Jonghyun introduced stories sent in by listeners. one listener revealed that they were on welfare, and confessed to worries surrounding their future.
At this, Jonghyun said, “my situation was like that too”, and revealed that he grew up in a household that received welfare support during his school years. “so, i would purposely not eat the (free) school lunch when i was in middle school. i hated it, the fact that i was getting help. it came from a place of immaturity,” he said.
“but i think you become even more pathetic if you put too much focus on those types of things. i was like that for three or four years, but after that, i started thinking about what it is i want and saying it out loud”, he unveiled.
Continuing from this, Jonghyun offered affectionate advice to the listener who sent in the story, telling them, “you’re probably around the same age that i was at that time. i hope you’ll work hard and successfully overcome (your situation). environment is important, but i think overcoming your environment only comes from true effect. i really hope you succeed.”
Meanwhile, Jonghyun held his first solo concert, The story by Jonghyun, a total of twelve times from October 2 -4, 8 - 11 and 16 - 18 in smtown coex atrium’s smtown theatre in seoul. jonghyun captured his audience by displaying his skilled singer - songwriter abilities without regrets, performing along with a live band and rearranging his self-composed songs from his first mini album, base, and his first collection, story. op. 1. Jonghyun once said that he doesn’t like thinking back on his childhood. when he was visiting his childhood home back in 2015 for monthly live connection he was quoted as saying: “i don’t want to think back or reminisce about my childhood memories. i have no good memories as i was in a period of storm and stress while living there”. he also said on the show that he doesn’t like looking at childhood pictures for the same reason, but you can view some baby photos of him here.
